The paper shows that since the end of World War II, the American people have seen an extraordinary change in the economic, social and moral priorities of the nation and its people. It discusses the three generations which have grown up since the war, each positively and negatively influenced by their parents and social change. It explores the choices made by each generation in raising their children which have had an enormous effect on how the following generations turned out. But the parents of baby boomers tended to encourage their children to occupy their free time by doing constructive things. Baby boomers were an extracurricular group in school, participating in many activities, including band, track, basketball, choir and dance. Children were also encouraged to get after school jobs, like paper routes or baby-sitting. By the 1980s most afternoon papers had disappeared. While many children continued to get after school jobs, less did.
